Until It Breaks – Chapter 27

Spill It

Valerie sighed and put down the book she was reading. It was no use she was unable to concentrate on the words in front of her.

After reading the same page for three times she finally gave up and started pacing around the small dorm room. The chat with Liam and Eva wouldn’t leave her mind. She felt mad and betrayed for having actually trusted Eva. Liam was right, she had an agenda from day one. And Ethan’s wrongdoings still went unpunished.

At the same time she was incredibly mad at Jenny for refusing to believe her. I guess we were never friends again after all. The Jenny she had known a few years ago would have acted differently. A lot had changed. She was starting to doubt whether they still had a cause. More and more she was in favor of just dropping this whole pursuit and let Jenny learn her lesson the hard way. It wouldn’t save her place at Havencrest but it would save her sanity for sure.

Suddenly there was a knock on her door and without much of a pause Liam burst inside.
“Have you ever heard of privacy?!”, Valerie exclaimed, surprised by the sudden visitor. “I could have been naked!”
Liam’s face flushed red but he still replied with a calm tone: “Why the hell would you be naked in the middle of the day?”
“I could have showered?!”, Valerie replied, annoyed by Liam’s behavior.
“Whatever, not the point.”
“What is it then?”
Valerie rolled her eyes. Liam looked at her confused.
“You haven’t texted me back? You know, about this whole Ethan thing? What are we gonna do next?”

Valerie sat down and slumped at the edge of her bed.
“What?!”, Liam burst out, “You can’t let him get away. What happened to our plan?”
Valerie felt her patience running out.
“Geeze, you need to calm down. Why are you even so damn passionate about this? I’m done with the drama. Let Jenny do what she wants, I’m moving back to my parents and then I’m gonna start fresh. Preferably without Ethan, Jenny or Eva in my life.”

Liam looked at her wide eyed.
“Why am I…? Are you kidding me?! Remember this isn’t only about you. I want to prove that I’m not some kind of douche who spread nasty lies about his best friends boyfriend because he was jealous. Dammit, Valerie, I’m trying to clear my name here.”

Valerie shook her head.
“That will never work, you’ve heard Jenny, she’ll never believe us… and you know that…?”, Valerie frowned as she realised Liam wasn’t telling the whole truth. She stood up to face him. “Spill it.”

“Spill what?”
“Don’t play dumb. There’s more to this.”
Liam sighed and look down at his feet.
“Fine. I do have feelings for Jenny.”

“Wow!”, Valerie shook her head in disbelief. “Why didn’t you tell me this before? So you wanna win her back?”
“No!”, Liam was quick to reply, “I just want her to be happy. It probably won’t be with me but that dick Ethan is going to break her heart – he kind of already did. He deserves some form of punishment!”

“Aren’t you noble”, Valerie said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. She couldn’t believe that Liam hadn’t told her this. It put his whole mission of clearing his name and being the hero in a new perspective. On the other hand it was undeniable that he was right. Ethan would break Jenny’s heart. And as much as Valerie wanted to turn her back on Jenny at the moment, did she really deserve that?
“Please, Valerie, help me. Help her! After that you can do whatever you want and I’ll leave you alone”, he pleaded.
“What could I even do?”
Liam smiled slightly as if he had already convinced Valerie.

“You said you had dirt on him that could get him in trouble. Use it.”
He held out his phone for her to grab. It was time to make a decision.

Vee is for Vortex – Chapter 52

Welcome back to a spoo-hoo-hooooky episode of Vee is for Vortex!

That’s right, it’s Vampires! I decided to play one of the premade families from the Vampire pack for this neighborhood rotation: Caleb and Lilith Vatore (they’re siblings). They used to live in a smaller house in Forgotten Hollow that they hoped to make their home even though they had their differences with the Master Vampire Count Vladislaus Straud IV who lives in the Haunted Mansion on the hill.

So what can a player do…? That’s right, kick out Count What’s-his-face and move the Vatore siblings into the awesome big mansion! Suck it, Vlad.

Vampires apparently have a normal form and a dark form which they can turn into much like aliens with their disguises. I had Lilith turn into hers to check out what it looked like. Pretty scary!

Lilith has the rank of “Prime Vampire” already so she has a lot of powers (but also weaknesses). She can use super speed, mind control other sims and use her powers to make someone be vampiricly attracted to her! Also, she has the power to create other vampires by biting them. Uuuuuuh.

Which makes sense since her aspiration is Vampire Family. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Don’t be fooled. Lilith wants to bite and turn as many other sims as she can. This will be fun. Apart from her “evil” aspiration she is active, outgoing and creative. Guess that helps her look more harmless and charm her victims.

While Lilith seems confident and spooky, her brother Caleb is actually kind of a dork. Within the first day of playing him he ran outside 3 times despite the burning sun. Smh.

He’s materialistic so I think he’ll enjoy the new big house I got them … in a total legal way of course. He’s a foodie and ambitious. Ambitious to be a good vampire that is! He doesn’t want to bite any sims and remain as human as possible. Now this could be interesting since he is the exact opposite of his sister Lilith.

The vampire pack gave us two new skills, the pipe organ skill and the vampire lore skill. Since Caleb doesn’t want to bit anyone I thought I’d test these skills with him. But maybe I’m gonna let him practice that pipe organ without me for a while *screeeeeech, my ears*

Vampire lore serves as sort of a tutorial for the player since while your sims research it, you get tips & tricks for the immortal life such as staying away from the sun (oh really?!) or sleeping in coffins.

It levels pretty quickly since it can be leveled up to level 15, so I got the level 3 required for Lilith’s aspiration in no time. Time to roam the city and find some victims to turn. So I headed to San Myshuno’s karaoke bar. Naturally.

Hmmmm, Sophia Bjergsen, maybe?

Nope, she’s in luck, she’s out in the sun. I learned the hard way how quickly vampires die in the sun while playing this pack for the first time. My three vampires ALL died on they’re first trip outside. Boo. This time I’ll do better.

Let’s head inside. Hmmm, so I guess our first victim will be this tasty lady, hehe!

After being bitten she consumes Lilith’s vampire essence and will now turn in a few days time! At least so the notifications say. Nice touch with the teeth marks on her neck.

There’s no stopping us now! Turn everyone! Who’s next? Oh yes Marketa, aka ThePlumbob, mwahahaha. But before we turn her I’m gonna play around with these mind control powers.

LOL she actually started working out behind the bar haha. Okay, that was fun but let’s get down to business. Lilith sneakily sneaks up behind Marketa…

Or maybe not so sneaky. Look who’s watching. My simself! She’s not amused!

More like “What the hell, ew”.

Well, well July, now that you’re already here, I guess you can be the next victim! But Lilith strikes up a casual conversation first to give July a false sense of security. So evil!

Very casual.

Hm, I wanted to turn my simself into a vampire but Lilith didn’t have enough Vampire energy to do it. So some dark meditation was in order.

Not suspicious at all. But it seems like no one cared. Oh well, time to sink my fangs into.. myself?

Marketa seems pleased that she isn’t the only vicitm now. Guess we can be Vampire buddies. Oh I should open up a vampire club for Lilith and her fledglings! Maybe in the next chapter.

After being bitten, July gets a werid feeling in her stomach. I never though I’d say this but food doesn’t seem appealing at all right now. Lol, so unlike me.

So now Lilith really doesn’t have enough Vampire energy to turn anymore sims so I guess that random lady that showed up is safe. We’ll have to return to the mansion to sleep for real. But after this hard day of labor, Lilith deserves a break. And what better to relax than a round  of horrible vampire karaoke!

Ha! That’s it for today and I hope you tune in next time for more vampire shenanigans!

Sims 4 Vampires – CAS Review

Woo, Vampires! I hope you’re excited for the release of the vampire gamepack tomorrow. I received a free copy of the pack from EA for review so I hope I can provide you with some insights on the pack so you can decide whether or not you want to buy it.

This particular review is about the Create-A-Sim part of the pack only (check here for the gameplay review). Although it is notable that for this pack it doesn’t only include clothes but also a range of skin details, new eyes, ears and more. Exciting!

Here’s what I’ll be reviewing in this post so you can jump straight to the section you’re interested in:
1. Skin Tones

2. Teeth

3. Skin Details

4. Eyes

5. Dark Form

6. Male Hair

7. Male Clothes

8. Makeup

9. Female Hair

10. Female Clothes

11. Children

12. Conclusion

Now, let’s get started!

One thing I will have to critcize first of all is that you cannot make a normal sim into a vampire in CAS. You can add a new vampire but the only way to copy the appearance of a normal sim to a vampire is by having them transform ingame. So be very careful when doing a vampire CAS, so you won’t have to start over! Then again, you can’t make a sim into an alien in CAS so I guess this has to be expected.

Skin Tones

This isn’t part of the pack but a free update that was issued a few weeks ago, so these new skin tones are also available in base game! But of course they mostly cater to vampires.

There’s a total of 7 new skin tones. One of them is green which is interesting since I consider green more a witch type of skin tone rather than vampiric. Maybe this is a sign? But that’s just speculation. The other 6 skin tones are what you’d expect, different shades of gray (haha), a gray with a violet sting to it and a dark black tone. All of these work well for vampires and the range is good, so I’m satisfied.

I was really excited about the new teeth. Customising your Sims’ teeth is something that came with the free update that also had the skin tones (you can change teeth in base game, too!).

The vampire pack adds 4 new teeth styles, which is honestly more than I expected. I thought you’d get one standard set of vampire fangs, so these other 3 came as a happy surprise. Two of the teeth are more of a aggressive/evil style fangs while the other two are more toned down, which I like. I think these four give you an ok range of teeth to not make all your vampires look the same in terms of fangs. Not sure if I could think of any more ways to model vampire teeth myself. Note, that these particular teeth are only available to vampries and not normal sims.

Skin Details

Now this is where vampires really get their unique looks, the skin details. You can have vampire brows, vampire cheecks, vampire eyes, vampire eye sockets and vampire mouths. If you’re overwhelmed with the combination possibilities there’s even a selection of “styled looks” called Vampire Archetypes that combine the different details for you.

I haven’t screenshotted all of them because there are just so many! This is what makes vampires really stand out from normal sims. It’s especially useful to differentiate between a vampire’s normal form and his dark form – simply add more horrific skin details (more on dark form see below). I especially like the “porcelain cracked” looks but there are also scars or clefts to chose from. Customize your vampires to your hearts content! Big plus point for these here. Note, that these skin details are only available to vampries and not normal sims.

The vampire pack also offers a whooping total of 10 new eye colors, most of which are glowing somehow. Some even have different kind of pupils or no iris at all like the alien-like black eyes. I like the selection and all of the colors feels very fitting for a vampire. Again this is a useful tool to make a vampire’s dark form stand out. Note, that these eye colors are only available to vampries and not normal sims.

I almost didn’t see these, because body details don’t have this yellow “new” tag like other CAS stuff has, but there are new ears! 6 new ear types in fact all of which feature pointy ends. Very cool! Sadly, these aren’t available to non-vampire sims, which makes me sadder than the other vampire details being vamp-exclusive. So don’t say goodbye to your elf/fairy custom content ears just yet.

Dark Form

Vampires can have a so-called dark form which they change into in certain situations, such as being very thirsty for plasma or biting another sim. You can modify the dark form in CAS (and even copy your sim’s looks to his/her dark form if you’re adding it later).

The dark form CAS has this dark mist in the background to differentiate it from normal CAS which looks kinda cool.

Now a vampire’s dark form can be completely different from his/her normal form, you can change eye color, ears, skin details, hair, clothers… you get the idea. Not only can you make hungry vampires look really scary, you can also make a vampire that looks like a normal sim…

… but then has a super crazy scary dark form. Awesome!

I like the dark form feature a lot since it allows for great story-telling opportunities with your sims and also makes high thirst a much more prominent issue that you can immediately see.

Male Hair

Starting off now with the more typical CAS stuff, hair and clothes. Now male hair fell a little short in this pack, as there is only 1 new hairstyle for men. It’s cool but I feel like there are a few missed opportunities here to go all out on more crazy vampire hairs. Also no new facial hairs, boo. But I guess that wouldn’t have made much sense for vampires anyway.

Male Clothes

Now we’re looking at male clothes. While there aren’t a lot of items here, I mostly like the ones we get.

First off, there’s 1 new hat, a tophat. Looks like something that could also work with vintage glamour stuff. Sadly, at least the new vampire hair seems to have it’s issues with it. Other hairs I have tested seem fine.

There are no styled looks for males so next up are the 3 new tops. I mostly liked these though the first one looks more like a chef’s attire…

… and even the various color options couldn’t change that for me. But hey, this probably works well with dine out. Make a vampire restaurant!

The other two tops have more of a vampire-feel to them and while they are very different I like them both. This one is vintage vest…

…that comes in dark colors as well as light ones, which is always nice if you want to use these clothes for non-vampire sims.

The other one is a leather jacket that gives me the “cool, shady vampire” vibe. I like this one a lot since works great both on vampires and normal sims. Again you get some diverse color options ranging from black to pink.

This pack gives you 2 new pants for males, though they are very similar. The only difference is that one has a pattern and the other one hasn’t. Both look great in my opinion and again come in lots of fancy colors.

There is 1 new pair of shoes which fits the theme of most of the clothes in this pack – vintage but classy.

The best new things for males are in my opinion the full body outfits. In my opinion we didn’t have a lot of viable options for male full body outfits so far, but for vampires, you’ll have 5 full body outfits to chose from and I love all of them!

The sims team really made an effort here to cater to everyone’s color taste. Some of your vampires can be a bit more… unusual if you want to.

Of course there are always the traditional dark color options for these outfits involving a lot of black, red, blue and purple. You can probably use some of these on normal sims, but the goal is definitely dressing vampries (which is okay given that it’s a vampire pack).

This last outfit is very similar to the first one, again the only difference is the pattern on the sleeves. If I were picky, I’d say this artificially increases the number of items but eh, not everyone likes giraffe print, so I guess that’s fair.

Now we’re getting into the female vampires. They also have their own archetypes and when you look at those you’ll notice some fancy new makeup.

There are 3 new makeup items, two dramatic eyeshadows and one lipstick. While might not seem like a lot, I found that the alien makeup from Get to work and the makeup from luxury party stuff works really well with my female vamps.

Female Hair

The panel shows 5 new hairstyles for females, but I’m gonna call that 4 new hairstyles because one is the male one. 3 of these hairs you’ll probably never use on normal sims, but they look great for my new vampire countesses! They’re unique and classy which I like a lot.

As per usual the flowers and accessoires will change color depending on the chose haircolor – but the combination is set and not customisable.

The last hair is one I’d also use on normal sims. And while we already have a straight-with-bangs hairstyle in the game, this one is a little more relaxed and wavy, so definitely a nice addition.

Female Clothes

On to female clothes. As a first I think in any pack ever there aren’t more female than male items. Crazy, right?

But as opposed to males, females get 1 styled look which I quite like.

There are also 1 new earring and 2 new necklaces which look absolutely stunning and fit in well with the rest of the clothes.

Females get 4 new tops which I all love! I’d use any of these in a heartbeat. As with the male stuff, there are quite a lot of color options both dark and light. I can see myself using at least two of these on normal sims too.

This top (that we already saw in the styled look) is probably my favorite for vampires since it looks very unique and sleek while still being classy.

This is next one I particularly like because it looks great on vampires and on normal sims.

Next up are 3 full body outfits (less than for males, omg). I like all of these and I can see myself using them quite a lot on my vampires. I do wish though there were more classy dresses, things might get repetitive for my vampire countesses.

We get 2 new female bottoms. I know the screenshot shows four, but again two of them are the male pants so they don’t really count.

These pants I love because they go great with the tights in this pack (which you can see a bit further down).

The skirt is slightly awkard in my opinion but I’ve never been a big fan of 3/4-long skirts. Maybe you like it.

There’s 1 new bracelet (two technically but it’s the same just for each arm), 1 new pair of gloves and 5 pairs of tights. Now I reall like all of these accessoires, espeically the gloves! And the tights have different and unique patterns with fun colors. Great additions!

There are 2 new pairs of shoes for females, both are boots. I do like both and they go really well with the outfits in this pack as well as many of the clothes from other packs.

Speaking of other packs, I’ve found it notable that this pack works great with a few clothes I have never used before, such as this skirt from Get Together.

So while there aren’t a lot of new items, the combination possibilites are definitely there which is surprising given the unique theme of the pack but it’s a nice surprise.

Toddlers & Children

Toddlers and Children are not getting a lot in this pack, in fact toddlers get 0 new toddler items. The only good thing is, that toddlers can still be vampires and use the skin tones and eyes.

Children get a total of 4 new child items, two hairs and two full body outfits. Again, children can also use the new skin tones and the vampire eyes.

I like both hairstyles, especially the one for girls with the buns. I just wish there were more clothes…

This dress for girls is probably a bit over the top in most situations but let me tell you it looks great if your sims live in a haunted mansion.

The boys outfit I like but it doesn’t particularly excite me. I’ll see if I will use this.

I don’t have any hard numbers so correct me if I’m wrong but I feel like this pack is on the lower end concerning the number of new items. Still, I like all the items we do get and they really have a thought-out theme and obvious vampiric vibe to them. While you’re not going to get much out of this pack if you want to buy it purely for CAS, it definitely provides some nice looks for vampires and even historical-styled normal sims.

However, a big plus for the CAS side of this pack are the skin details for vampires – amazing variety! The dark form option also really adds to the experience. And if you combine the clothes with stuff from other packs you’ll get some more great outfits.

So while there are a few minor let downs such as the lack of male hairs, all in all this pack is going to get an A- for CAS from me.

Hope this review was helpful! Let me know what you think of the pack in the comments below.

Sims 4 Vampires – Review

Happy Vampires Day! The new vampire game pack releases tomorrow and I received a free copy of it from EA to review. So I hope I can give you some insights into the pack so you can decide whether you want to buy it.

The splash screen when opening up the Sims 4 vampires for the first time promises amazing vampire creation, supernatural powers, a spooky new world and the joys of the immortal, plasma-sucking life.

To check out how awesome vampire creation is, read my Sims 4 Vampires CAS review.

First, because a lot of people have asked me this: You cannot turn off Vampires in the game options. If you install the pack, you have them. However, the game will only generate very few vampires and they won’t start biting people on their own. So as long as the player doesn’t spread vampirism on purpose your sims should be safe.

From all that I have played so far, I feel like this is the most complex and unique game pack we have to date and it definitely offers a lot of the things promised and a good bang for your buck. But let’s get into details…

1. Aspirations

2. Forgotten Hollow

3. Build & Buy Mode

4. Vampire Needs

5. Sunlight

6. Powers

7. Skills

8. Thirst

9. Turning Other Sims

10. Lot Traits

11. Conclusion

The vampire game pack comes with no new traits but a whopping 3 new aspirations.

The first one is Vampire Family. A vampire with this aspiration wants to create a family of vampires – though not necessarily through birth. He wants to bite sims, convert them to vampirism and then train his new vampire offspring. This is what I imagine to be the “evil vampire” aspiration in “teen rating” language.

A Master Vampire wants to become wise and powerful by gathering knowledge about Vampires and gaining all kinds of supernatural powers. This aspiration focuses on the power point and vampire rank system – how you level up is your choice. Basically, this is a versatile aspiration that can lead both towards good or evil.

The third one is Good Vampire, a good vampire wants to satisfy his thirst by drinking plasma packs instead of leeching on humans and wants to be friends with both vampires and humans.

I think all these three aspirations provide nice storytelling opportunities and are quite balanced. Really like this addition!

Forgotten Hollow

Forgotten Hollow is the new world of The Sims 4 Vampires. It comes with a spooky world icon…

…and 5 lots with is appropriate game pack world size when you compare it to Granite Falls which has 6 lots. But as opposed to Granite Falls this is a residential world and not only usable for vacation. Four of the lots come with pre-built houses but of course you can tear these down and build your own if you want to.

The pre-built houses fit well into this world that gives off a crisp but mysterious vibe during the day and a really spooky atmosphere at night.

The big mansion is the home of Count Vladislaus Straud, a master vampire who will occasionally call your played vampires on the phone and give them tips for their immortal life. The mansion itself is a normal lot that can be edited, but the entry way and the surrounding graveyards cannot be changed. Personally, I wouldn’t want to change it though because it fits very well into this world and is properly haunted but still classic.

Build & Buy Mode

I won’t be doing a full review on Build-Buy-Mode but here are a few of my thoughts.

I’ve read that Build & Buy mode combined give you about 100 new items but I wouldn’t vouch for that number as I haven’t counted them myself.

Build mode in this pack I found underwhelming as there aren’t many new items. But it fills the gap between Get Together and Vintage Glamour stuff and if you combine it with those packs it works really well. Though I have to note there are a few new wallpapers, 2 of which I like a lot. I can see myself using those regularly at least.

The thing I liked most about buy mode is the mix&max pedestal-statue system that lets you combine 5 different statues with 3 pedestals as you desire. A big plus for buy mode are the crack & tear wall decals and the cobwebs which you can place anywhere to make your house look old, abandoned and run-down. Otherwise, buy mode also doesn’t have an awful lot of new items, but I think it’s okay since the focus of this pack is clearly on gameplay and that doesn’t disappoint…

Vampire Needs

One thing that you’ll notice when diving into the game with your newly created vampires is that they have very special needs (also a cool needs icon with fangs!). Vampires have moved on from mortal needs such as having to pee and instead of craving food they will now crave blood aka plasma.

The most prominent need is vampire energy. This works similarly to normal sims energy as it get replenished by sleeping (either in a bed or in a coffin). But your vampires can also use their vampire energy to unleash their supernatural powers such as mind control or super speed (more on powers below).

Vampire energy will decrease when your vampire is exposed to sunlight but apart from sleeping in can be increased again with dark meditation which gives less energy than sleeping but is also faster. So if you just need that little burst of vampire energy to cause hallucinations to your most hated neighbor, this is your go-to interaction.

Thirst is the second most important need to keep an eye on. It decreases over time and can be replenished by drinking from other sims, drinking plasma packs, eating plasma fruit or having a plasma fruit cocktail. Some of these methods are more effective than others but it’s your choice what to use. Just be careful not to get your thirst get too low because otherwise your vampire might latch onto other sims without your doing.

The bat-meter at the bottom displays your vampires current power level (see more on powers below).

It is notable that children don’t have special vampire needs even if they are a vampire. Their thirst and powers will only form after becoming a teen, which is sad but somehow makes sense since they will develop more powers with age.

Now let’s talk about coffins. There are two different types of coffins, a bare wooden one and a fancy decorated one. Both can be used to make awesome crypts for your vamps to sleep in.

But sleeping isn’t the only thing you can do in there.

Finally a new woohoo location! And it’s pretty spectacular, too. I’ve heard there’s also woohoo in bat form but I haven’t figured that one out just yet.

The needs system is well thought-out and playing around with vampire energy is a lot of fun. I especially like that you can’t use your powers all the time, you have to keep an eye on your vampire energy to do so. This adds a bit of a challenge to the vampire gameplay and makes it feel more realistic. I’ve found that one of my vampires has enough energy to transform two other sims and perform a bit of mind control before she had to meditate. That’s decent but still adds challenge to the “convert 5 sims” milestone of the vampire family aspiration, for example.

Now vampires wouldn’t be vampires if they didn’t have an inherent fear of sunlight. And rightfully so! While exposed to its rays vampires will get gradually more uncomfortable and lose their vampire energy.

The longer they stay in the sun the worse their moodlets get and eventually they will even start to smoke and emit a few embers.

Being deprived of vampire energy also renders a vampire unable to use any of his powers, so you should be quick to return them beneath a roof because they can’t use super speed or their bat form to get there.

What I learned the hard way is that prolonged sun exposure doesn’t only zero your vampire energy, it will eventually burn you… well, to death.

I haven’t used a stopwatch but this death is fairly quick so keep an eye on your autonomous vampires or otherwise you’ll meet grim reaper sooner than you like! At least we get that super awesome vampire urn.

Now I found it a bit annoying just how fast vampires die in the sun – because either it’s very fast or I’m a horrible vampire mom. Three of my vampires died on their first day out in San Myshuno. Whelp.

At least there are a few things you can do to prevent any untimely demises.

Any kind of ceiling even without walls will do. Also, vampires of higher rank can develop higher sun resistance and even immunity to those deathly rays. Just be careful until then.

During this review, I’ve already mentioned a few vampire powers. Powers are developed through power points which you earn by performing vampiric acts, use the powers you already have, talking to other vampires, researching vampire secrets etc. There are numerous ways to earn power points. Powers are tiered by ranks which you can gradually unlock. But for each tier you unlock you will also have to choose one or two weaknesses so your vampires won’t get overly powerful.

These screenshots are only a few examples of the powers you can unlock, it’s probably best you discover them yourself. But I really like that there are as many as 25 powers many of which have multiple stages. In the end, it is possible to get them all but personally I like how ranking vampires are all unique and don’t all have the same powers and weaknesses. But of course, whether you want an all-round powerful vampire or a uniquely specialized vampire you can decide that for yourself.

Some vampire powers, such as enabling bat form can be used on yourself while others can be used on other sims.

I like the bat form but when you fly somewhere as a bat the vampire won’t actually fly across the map but will fly upwards, out of view and then instantly fly back down at the specified location so it’s more like teleporting. It’s faster than normal walking or running but I kind of would have preferred to actually see the bat fly across the map.

Vampires and even normal sims get some special interactions with this game pack that are marked with a little bat symbol. For example normal sims can enthuse about vampires or speculate about their existence.

Vampires can recall their mortal life, complain about plasma, compliment a sim’s neck and more. These interactions are really fun details that bring life (or undeath haha) to the pack.

Some powers you will find more interesting than others. While I almost always use the bat form, powers like cause hallucination seemed underwhelming to me.

I imagined some actual hallucinations showing up but no, the sim will just talk to themselves and be unable to perform any interactions for a short while. Meh. The only thing I use this power for is to level up my vampire rank quickly since you get power points by using your powers. However it’s also useful for distracting normal sims when you’re trying to get their plamsa, so that’s a nice bonus.

But all in all, most powers are quite fun or useful such as garlic immunity, super vampire speed or sunlight resistance. And it’s really fun to level up your vampire to gain more powers.

Another power that doesn’t have to be unlocked is “Vampiric duel” which replaces the fight interaction when performed between two vampires. Now this is some epic stuff.

I think on their first day I had my vampires fight 3 times just to watch these amazing animations.

At this point, I’m gonna note that vampires are indeed immortal. They will age normally until they reach young adult and then stop aging. The “days until age up” tooltip is replaced by “number of days lived” such as in elders. So vampires can’t die from old age, but I haven’t tested all the death types. Since they don’t really sleep I’m not sure if you could drown them in a pool but I’m pretty sure fire can still kill them… You’ll have to test that for yourself!

The vampire game pack adds two new skills, the pipe organ skill and the vampire lore skill.

The pipe organ skill can be leveled up at the new pipe organ (duh) up to level 10. With sufficient skill your vampires can perform typical songs with a vampiric vibe or play haunted music. This is pretty fun as it has a unique sound to it and is different from what a sim can do with a piano. In my vampire mansions, this sets a great spooky atmosphere. Nice one!

The vampire lore skill is different from other skills in a way. It can be leveled up to level 15 and while it unlocks specific interactions for your vampires it is also kind of a tutorial for you, the player.

Researching on the computer  or reading vampire tomes will regularly give you tips on certain aspects of the immortal life such as how to shield yourself from the sun or to beware of garlic. With this skill vampires can also unlock purchasable plasma packs, learn how to craft plasma packs or make plasma cocktails. A normal sim leveling this skill can also learn how to cure vampires using a certain popular spice…

Of course, as a vampire, you will have to satisfy your never ending thirst for blood, or as teen rated sims call it, plasma. A vampire can drink plasma from normal sims, or plasma fruit sources but not from other vampires or aliens.

When drinking from another sim a vampire will have to use his powers to compel the sim in question to let the vampire drink. If you befriend a normal sim you can also ask them for permission to drink some plasma.

When attempting to drink plasma from a sim, a vampire will switch into their dark form which has a pretty cool animation.

However, lowly vampires might not have enough power to compel sims and they might resist which can result in… awkward situations.

Drinking from other sims is easier when their needs are low so the power “deprive needs” can come in handy here. Also romantic attraction can ease a sim into the idea of being drank from.

At some point you’ll have to do something to get your vampire a drink because low thirst can be dangerous – not for other vampires but for the sims around them.

If thirst gets very low, vampires transform into their dark form and will start attacking other sims. You can stop this interaction but they’ll try again and again until they succeed. Drinking uncontrollably is always a “deep drink” and never fails which might clash with the good vampire aspiration. So be careful!

Nearby sims who witness this uncontrollable drinking will also react negatively, aka “WTF ARE YOU DOING?!”.

A pretty cool detail are the puncture marks on the victims neck after a plasma drink.

But a deep drink might also steal a lot of a sim’s energy and lead to… embarassment.

Vampires can also get neat moodlets from drinking plasma depending on how tasty their victim is. I’m not sure what defines a sim’s tastiness though.

As opposed to sunlight, low thirst won’t kill you as I learned from Count Vlad. Thanks, Vlad!

Now, what if your vampire is tired of compelling other sims for plasma drinks? What if they want to be good? Plasma packs and plasma fruit is your answer. Vampires who level up the vampire lore skill will learn how to craft various plasma supplies that work without a normal sim to drink from.

Plasma fruit grows on glowing trees throughout Forgotten Hollow so it’s easy to get a hold of. I like that your vampires don’t have to drink from other sims and can also be good. Pretty realistic!

Turning other Sims

If you’re an evil vampire or just think the vampire life is superior you can turn other sims into vampires. Or normal sims can ask vampires to turn them if they have a high friendship level with them.

However not every vampire has the power to turn sims.

Because creating other vampires is actually a “minor vampire” power which you will have to unlock.

If you unlock it, you can even turn other sims without them asking for it – which they may hate you for, be warned.

The bitten sim will be uncomfortable for a few days before they finally turn and get to live the immortal life.

I like this system since it is what I would expect in a vampire game pack and has some neat details such as the special moodlets sims get after being bitten.

Lot Traits

The game pack comes with 3 new lot traits. Vampire Nexus will attract vampires to roam the neighborhood, a registered vampire lair will receive vampiric gifts from a mysterious vampire organization once in a while and a lot on a dark ley line will be more prone to produce vampire kids. I haven’t played around with these a lot but it sure is a nice addition to the game.

This game pack managed to be a perfect mix of the modern but often cheesy Twilight movies and classic vampire ideas such as Dracula. For example, the vampires won’t sparkle in the sun but still have a sufficient reason to stay away from it. They can sleep in creepy crypts or choose a classy sim bed. More comparisons come to mind.

The player gets a lot of freedom to customize their vampires in terms of looks and personality. You can play the good, the evil, the neutral vampire or anything in between which I really like! The Sims 4 Vampires gives good groundwork for any vampire story you want to tell while still offering compelling gameplay and a spooky atmosphere. The new world is small but still a big plus since it adds to the overall atmosphere of the game.

All in all I feel like in terms of gameplay and uniqueness this is the best game pack we had so far! I’d give the gameplay of this pack an A, there were only tiny tiny few hickups but they didn’t really influence my gameplay experience and are kind of nitpicky. I’m still having a lot of fun with this pack and if you decide to get it I hope you will  too!

PS: I enjoyed this a lot more than this vampire enjoys his fruit cake, but now you can laugh about this bonus screenshot.

Vee is for Vortex – Chapter 51

We are back with Alejandro Ferrari at his Restaurant! I played this for a few days without taking screenshot and Alejandro earned himself some table upgrades. Sweet!

Also a restaurant perk was in order. I chose patient patrons because while we have more tables now we still only have one waiter. So I guess  people not getting mad at slow service was the way to go.

One of the first guests to arrive today was Camille Thoreau from the Thoreau Legacy. I love seeing characters from other stories pop up at the Restaurant! It makes playing the game a lot more lively, don’t you think?

I also noticed Geoffrey Landgraab having a fancy bowl of salad with Katharina Caliente. Gasp!

Is there a scandal in order? Or maybe they were just discussing business. Or arranging marriages for their kids. Who knows.

Whoop whoop, sweet sweet cash coming in! Well, we’re not exactly rich yet but it’s progress from the 30 Simoleons we made last time. I wonder if we can actually make bank with this restaurant someday or if we’re doomed to always make ~200 Simoleons every day. We’ll see.

Now after Camille and Geoffrey, the week of interesting guests didn’t stop there…

It’s Alejandro’s girlfriend Jenny! How sweet of her to visit Alejandro at the restaurant. But wait…

What the hell? Who’s that guy? Why is she flirty? Alejandro was devestated! And I decided he deserves better.

Jep, I’m breaking them up. Jenny was NOT happy.

But how can she even be mad? She was on a date with another guy at Alejandro’s restaurant! If that’s not rubbing it in his face then I don’t know what is.

Oh, those fake crocodile tears!

Alejandro was so depressed about the whole situation. And I think I even see a bit of remorse in Jenny’s eyes. Well, it’s too late now, you snitchy chick!

After this disaster Alejandro really needed some alone time and I let him take a few days off from the restaurant. Watering Philipp’s plants with tears helped a bit.

Side note: Sophie Mocca got promoted, yay!

Shortly later, Jenny tried to pull some shady poop with Alejandro.

So I can see you make out with another guy? So not happening, girl!

After a week at home Alejandro was kind of over the whole thing. Time to reopen the restaurant. And this interesting guest theme really isn’t stopping.

Omg, it’s Lucas Ainsworth! The famous chef! From Dust to Dust! *faints*

We have to treat him extra special! He has in own restaurant in ‘Dust to Dust’ and it’s really renowed. Such an honor to have him here! If only this place wasn’t such a shack still.

But I think Alejandro still impressed him with top quality service and food. I didn’t catch a screenshot of it, but he left a 4 Star rating in the end. YAY!

Also, remember Alexa’s flirty looks from last chapter? Maybe there could be something there after all.

Yep, she’s digging it!

Completely unrelated to the flirt and since she’s been a lot nice since her charisma training, Alejandro gave Alexa a promotion!

Our waitress seems to have noticed because she was getting antsy for a promotion as well! I really need to remember to check on the satisfaction of my employees once in a while.

But Raina definitely did a good job and almost never dropped any food. She deserves this.

See that 4 Star rating? Moving on up.

I gave our chef, Jenny Chin, a promotion as well, for good measure. And it looks like it was the right choice!

First 5 star rating! So fame! #bestrestaurantintown #literally #theresnootherrestaurantinthistown #lol

Also, what’s up with the clown hair? I’ve had a lot of sims visit this restaurant with the clowns hair! It was a known glitch at the time but so hilarious (Yes, these screenshots are awfully old).

Our last interesting guest for the chapter is Don Lothario.

Yes, Don, you are special. And his girlfriend Anyala Nirtam is there too! And look, behind Alexa, it’s Don’s son from Candy Behr! Geeze, Don Lothario does have a lot of … connections.

After work, Alejandro invited over Alexa. I think these two would be cute together!

She’s been autonomously flirting with him all week. I think it’s time.

Aw! Now on this positive note, I’m gonna end this chapter 🙂 Hope you enjoyed it and see you around next time!

Until It Breaks – Chapter 25

Same Story

“LIAM?!”, Jenny and Valerie both called out in unison. The blonde guy who had entered the café nodded grimly.

“I told you the same story before, remember? You didn’t believe me either. But how likely is it that two people think up the same story?”
Jenny seemed uneasy but she didn’t sound convinced yet. “You could have told her to say this”, she said carefully although Valerie imagined to hear a hint of doubt in her voice. Apparently Ethan heard it too because he quickly intervened.
“Don’t listen to this douche, he’s just jealous!”
“Hey! Who’s the douche here?”, Liam made a step towards Ethan with a threatening gesture. Ethan stepped up towards him.

“I’m not scared of you”, he growled. The atmosphere was tense as the onlookers waited for one of the guys to throw a punch.
“Stop it!”, Jenny yelled and abruptly stood up.

“I won’t be pushed around like this. Come on, Ethan, let’s go!”
Ethan shot one last glare at Liam then huffed and followed Jenny as she walked right out of the door.

“Jenny! Open. YOUR. EYES!”, Liam yelled after her but she didn’t turn around. In that moment he realized how quiet is was and that every person in the cafe was staring at him.
“What?!”, he barked at them and left the cafe. Valerie quickly followed.

“Where the hell did you come from?”, she asked him.
“I was walking by and saw you guys yelling in the café. Only heard bits but that was enough. Didn’t work though, did it”, he said bitterly, “You were right. We shouldn’t have told her.”

Valerie shook her head. “I had to. I couldn’t take it anymore.”
“I’m curious though. Why didn’t you tell her before?”
Valerie squirmed.
“Let’s just say Ethan has dirt on me.”

That wasn’t quite the truth and comfortably hid Valerie’s own questionable morals. But she had never felt so relieved even if it didn’t work. She was finally free. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Sure, her dream of Havencrest was crushed. But there were other schools or even other fields of study. At the moment, she didn’t even care.

“Well, it’s gonna come out now. And that asshole is gonna get away without a scratch, unless-”
Suddenly, Liam’s head jerked up. He was staring into space with wide open eyes.
“I have an idea.”
“What now?”
“We can still win this.”

Valerie sighed. The last few minutes had made her reach a conclusion. “It’s not a competition. Why bother? Clearly, Jenny doesn’t want to know. Can’t we just let her live her perfect little lie?”
But Liam disagreed. “It’s not about Jenny. It’s about justice against Ethan. He can’t get away with this.”
Valerie tilted her head in thought. “You know, I kind of have dirt on him, too. Though I’m not sure it’s enough to get him in trouble. What’s your idea?”
She had thought about pitching Ethan’s hacker-activities to the police but she didn’t have any direct proof and she wasn’t sure how seriously the police would take an accusation against a lowkey hacker. Liam grinned.

Vee is for Vortex – Chapter 50

We are back at the Roommates household but this time I’ll be focusing entirely on one of them: Alejandro Ferrari, the charismatic Italian.

Because he is about to become a manager! A Restaurant manager to be more precise. I selected a nice plot of land in Magnolia Promenade where we can build his restaurant from scratch.

I’m determined not to cheat him any money so he got a really basic setup with the fund he had (about 8000 simoleons). We’ll see if he can reel that back in. Anyway this is Alejandro’s Trattoria!

Bare, I know. But I hope to add more tables soon. The menu is Italian-inspired and not that big to not overwhelm our chef.

I hired some townies to work at my restaurant, the host is Alexa
Future me: I don’t like her.
Past me: Why?
Future me: Just wait.

The waitress is Reyna. I believe the chef is Jenny Chin, one of the girls Don Lothario romanced at his store. The world is small.

Alexa is new as a host and she still has to learn some manners.

She’s being pretty snarky to our first guests, the Goths. But I guess she’ll learn some charisma soon (Future me: HAH!).

Rather than being friendly to the guests, Alexa got really excited about chatting up Alejandro. Wait up there, lady, this guy is taken!

And apart from providing friendly host service, she seems to be doing literally anything else. Sigh.

I can see why Future me hates her. To cheer up the Goths after Alexa’s bad service I had Alejandro offer them free drinks. They accepted but they still seemed on the fence about this whole restaurant thing.

Hopefully a good meal will change their minds. I’m glad Reyna didn’t drop it at their feet!

But oh no, what’s happening?

A fight! Big bummer. Maybe Mortimer got salty about Bella’s choice of restaurant. They were both subdued and unenthusiastic after that.

While they still both left a 3 star rating, Bella seemed a lot happier with the place than her husband. We’ll get there.

Alexa still being Alexa. Damn, future me was right.

“Wow, you really chose this place for your date?Ha, good luck then.”

Not sure if Alexa caused it by ruining the mood, or this two are just on a really weird date. Because they seem to hate each other!

Just in case it was Alexa’s sarcastic greeting, I had Alejandro pay for some hostess training for her. She seemed kind of happy about that – but with Alexa I’m never too sure.

Anyway she really needs this because her behaviour is not getting any better! UGH.

“Seriously, dude. Your shirt is ugly as fuck. Go sit in the corner so no one has to see it.”

Meanwhile, the angry couple has been convinced to stay at Alejandro’s by him frequently checking up on them and showering them with compliments. They still hate each other somehow. Townies are weird.

Our chef is gathering some seriously fruit ninja skills! Go, Jenny!

And *gasp* finally! The first guest Alexa is being friendly, too! And Severus Snape of all people.

I think these two would really get along. They seem to have a similar character.

After that, things went uphill with the guest greetings and people frequently sat down with 3 or 4 stars already.

I captured this adorable scene I really wanted to show you:

“You’re drawing in your olive bowl? Awwwwww, that’s so cute.”

And with that I’m ending this chapter. Alejandro made a bit of profit, not that much but he’s moving on up!

And I hope you’ll stick around for his pizza and pasta adventures!
